Dance artist and A.I.M. founding artistic director Kyle Abraham has been named to the Claude and Alfred Mann Endowed Professorship in Dance at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. He will serve in the role starting fall 2021, and will succeed William Forsythe.
Abraham is widely known for work that magnetizes traditionally disparate worlds, mixing ballet and contemporary techniques with other influences, such as hip hop and vogueing.
Abraham is an accomplished dance maker and educator: In 2013, he was named a MacArthur Fellow, in 2016, a Doris Duke recipient, and in 2018, a Princess Grace Statute Awardee and Lincoln Center Education Artist-in-Residence. His New York City Ballet-commissioned "THE RUNAWAY," which premiered in September 2018, was lauded by critics and audiences.
Abraham received a BFA from SUNY Purchase, an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and holds an honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Washington Jefferson College.
