British choreographer Liam Scarlett has died at the age of 35, a year after leaving the Royal Ballet amidst allegations of sexual misconduct. Scarlett died at his home in Ipswich, England.
Scarlett was a dancer with the Royal Ballet before becoming the company's artist in residence in 2012. He was suspended in August 2019, after students at the Royal Ballet School accused him of sexual misconduct. Despite an independent seven-month investigation, which found “no matters to pursue,” Scarlett resigned from his position in March 2020.
The Royal Danish Ballet canceled its production of the choreographer's “Frankenstein,” following other allegations of misconduct towards members of the ballet company's staff in 2018 and 2019. And in early 2020, Scarlett lost his position as artistic associate at the Queensland Ballet in Australia.
