History-making ballerina-activist Misty Copeland was awarded the Spingarn Medal at the 52nd NAACP Image Awards.
Presented annually for outstanding achievement by a Black American, the award is considered the highest honor to be given by the organization. "Thank you to the NAACP for this tremendous recognition," Copeland, an American Ballet Theatre principal dancer, said as she accepted the award virtually. "I am unbelievably humbled and overwhelmed."
